About

NAK Consulting, LLC is a medical communications and consulting firm, owned and operated by Dr. Nada Abou-Karam, an experienced clinician-author and trusted healthcare quality consultant. Dr. Abou-Karam is a board-certified ambulatory care clinical pharmacist with nine years of professional experience in a wide variety of practice settings, including ambulatory care, inpatient acute care, emergency medicine, care transitions, long-term care, and academia.

After completing her PGY-1 residency at Allina Health’s United Hospital in St. Paul, MN, Dr. Abou-Karam pursued specialty training in care transitions. As the Sharp

HealthCare-Touro University Continuum of Care PGY-2 resident, she joined the award-winning Continuum of Care program at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, recognized for Best Practices in Care Transitions by both the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the American Pharmacists Association.

At Sharp, Dr. Abou-Karam led the development and implementation of novel transitions of care services, including those in trauma and psychiatry. Her efforts in piloting successful new programs resulted in the expansion of transitions-of-care pharmacist services in geriatric trauma at Sharp Memorial Hospital and the development of a new medication reconciliation program at Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital. At the completion of her PGY-2, Dr. Abou-Karam provided consulting services to the CMS Community-Based Care Transitions Program (CCTP) at Sharp HealthCare, and then joined the faculty at the USC School of Pharmacy, where she served as the Care Transitions Pharmacy Program Coordinator and represented the School of Pharmacy on the CMS/Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG) Care Coordination and Medication Safety Collaborative.

After recognizing the crucial role of ambulatory management in the care continuum, Dr. Abou-Karam returned to Sharp HealthCare where she practiced for two years within Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical group.

Dr. Abou-Karam now lives in Los Angeles, CA with her newlywed husband. She decided to utilize her experiences as a published clinician-writer and successful healthcare quality professional to start NAK Consulting, LLC. Dr. Abou-Karam has practice and writing experience in a wide range of therapeutic areas, including cardiology, hematology, endocrinology, pulmonology, psychiatry, geriatrics and more. Her consulting services focus on transitions of care, hospital readmission reduction, risk stratification and predictive analytics.
